Here's a good example of what to expect on the Canyon City guided hikes for the summer of 2013 (starting June 15th):
Canyon City - A roughly two-hour historical nature hike offered twice daily (10 am and 2 pm) from Tuesday to Saturday (NOT on Sunday and Monday). Hikes run from June 15 - August 24 2013. Thanks to our sponsor the Yukon Government and Service Canada for making these hikes possible!
Special Hikes- These hikes feature Guest Biologists, Naturalists, Bird Specialists, Anthropologists, Historians, Cultural Story Tellers and more.

At 10AM on Saturday June 15th we have a hike with David Neufeld who will talk about the historical background of Canyon City and the tramway, site archeology, fur farming, and hydro-electric dreams.

Hikes will start at the Miles Canyon suspension bridge.
Difficulty: Easy; Approximately 3.5 kilometers (2.1 miles) round trip. Two hours.
If you can’t make it out for a hike, come by the bridge and the guides will give you an interpretive virtual historical tour! Look at our photo log!
DIRECTIONS FROM DOWNTOWN WHITEHORSE:
- SOUTH on Robert Service Way and go past the camground, the ball diamonds and the railway track crossing
- LEFT onto Miles Canyon Road
- FOLLOW Miles Canyon Road past the floatplanes, up a steep hill, past a lookout and down again
- LEFT into Miles Canyon Parking Lot (if you start going up a second steep hill you've gone too far).
DIRECTIONS FROM ALASKA HWY (IF YOU'RE HEADING NORTH FROM THE CARCROSS CUTOFF):
- Go past the Pioneer RV Park and turn RIGHT onto the Miles Canyon Road
- If you're heading north on the Alaska Hwy and you go past the Mountain Ridge RV Park you've gone too far
- Turn RIGHT into the Miles Canyon Parking Lot (the right turn is at the bottom of the steep hill. If you go up a hill you've gone too far)

Vision: To provide quality natural and historical interpretation for the public in order to develop an appreciation and understanding of the natural world.

- To foster a ‘sense of place’ in hopes of creating environmental responsibility.
- To engage children and adults in learning about their relationship with the natural world through environmental education.
- To provide enjoyable recreational opportunities for the public that allow for the exchange of information about the Yukon environment.
- To provide a high quality service that captures the interest and participation of tourists and locals alike.
- To increase the profile of YCS as environmental educators.
- To expand the Leave No Trace messaging to develop YCS into a Leave No Trace education hub.
