Yukon Environmental and Socio-economic Assessment Act (YESAA)
Vision: The environmental assessment regime for the Yukon (YESAA) lives up to the high standards established in the Umbrella Final Agreement.
To this end YCS monitors and responds to YESAA environmental assessments in the Yukon, and keeps the YESAA Board and Yukon citizens informed about weaknesses that we discover in the Act and its implementation. This information was particularly helpful when YCS participated in the 5 year review of YESAA in 2009. YCS and CPAWS-Yukon submitted combined detailed comments for the YESAA Five year Review.
As the Umbrella Final Agreement (UFA) required the completion of a comprehensive review of the
development assessment process within five years of the enactment of YESAA. SENES Consultants Limited (SENES) was selected
through a national competition by a Steering Committee made up of representatives of the
Council of Yukon First Nations, Government of Yukon, and Government of Canada to conduct
the YESAA Five-year Review. Here is the 2009 report prepared by SENES Consulatants (it's a a 2 MB pdf).
